School is back in session!

The kids are busy with after school activities and your schedule is packed again. Especially in the fall, it’s easy to let things in your house get disorganized. But before things get too far out of hand, we’ve got some great ideas to keep your household running smoothly straight through the end of the year.

Create a calendar:

The start of a school year means lessons, menus, sports practice, school functions, scout meetings, projects and more. Keeping everyone on track and on time can be difficult, but if you have a family calendar, it’s a whole lot easier.

Assign each family member a color and put everyone’s schedule in a central area, like on the fridge, or near the phone, where you, and the rest of the family can check it daily. This makes it easier for each family member to know what everyone else is doing, and you stand less chance of accidentally getting double booked, or forgetting someone’s lessons or practice entirely! (Hint: You can even take advantage of Google’s online Calendar too. Click on the image for more tips)

Make a place for the mess:

The house will stay a lot cleaner if the kids have a place to put coats, boots, backpacks and sports equipment the moment they come in the door. Organize a mudroom or hall closet with specific spaces for each child, and have them put their own things away, saving you time and effort.

Plan ahead:

Planning ahead can make things run a lot more smoothly later. Choosing outfits the night before, making weekly dinner menus and packing sports bags straight out of the dryer can help save time and keep your kids days running more smoothly.
