We have several passions here at Teresa’s Family Cleaning. One of course is helping keep Long Island clean and green and another is supporting those in need and supporting those who help others.
Today we would like to highlight ECAD (Educating Canines Assisting with Disabilities) This amazing organization provides highly skilled Service Dogs to increase mobility and independence for people living with disabilities. Dogs are trained to meet the needs of a specific population such as Veterans, at-risk youth, persons living with disabilities or in stressful circumstances, and children as young as two with Autism.
Some of ECAD’s programs include:
- Open Doors, ECAD’s core program, prepares canines for a career as a Service or Facility Dog who will ultimately be placed in hospitals, nursing homes, courthouses, etc
- ECADemy™ is vocational program which takes place at five residential treatment facilities specializing in helping at-risk youth with emotional, behavioral, and learning issues. All of ECAD’s dogs are educated by these at-risk youth.
- Canine Magic educates Service Dogs to assist children with autism as young as two years old, to build emotional bonding, cognitive development, socialization, and safety.
- Project HEAL™ offers three interrelated programs designed to meet the needs of Veterans living with physical injuries, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and/or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
Through Project HEAL,™ specifically educated Service Dogs are provided to veterans to help ward off panic attacks, provide a physical barrier in public places, and/or provide mobility and retrieval assistance.
Project HEAL’s™ Transitions program provides training to Veterans who, in turn, educate Service Dogs to be placed with fellow Veterans. Veterans in this program also act as mentors and role models to the at-risk youth, with whom they work side-by-side to educate the dogs.
Lastly, Project HEAL™ Train-the-Trainer program offers unique opportunity for Veterans to work with certified instructors to learn how to start a career in the field of Service Dog education.
